Parramatta Light Rail

Parramatta Light Rail is a NSW Government project linking Westmead, Parramatta CBD and Carlingford via Light Rail. You can see the current preferred route HERE.1 An option study for extension to Epping is also being considered.2 This is an exciting project which will open up the Carlingford ridge to better transport options into Parramatta and onto Westmead.

The Carlingford heavy rail line has always been a poor cousin to the rest of the metropolitan transport network. The Parramatta Light Rail will revitalise this corridor with a frequent transport service for the area. Active Transport connections will also be an incorporated into the project.3 This is important as the Carlingford ridge is the easiest grade for cycling and walking between Carlingford and Rydalmere.

Working at Westmead I am also delighted that the Parramatta Light Rail will go through to Westmead. Workers and visitors to Westmead will have a great option to travel into Parramatta as well as a north west bus connections at Factory St.

I can’t wait for work to commence. I will report more on the business study and EIS once released later this year. In the mean time you can watch the video below.4.
